COLLO LAND DEVELOPMENT, AN IMPORTANT ISSUE

collo man.jpg
Development in simple words means to bring up the society by providing them with the simplest basics needs of life
Collo land need development, I think it is a matter of taking decision to start the development; this decision will take long time

Collo vision is a victim of Collo missed used of political differences, although political difference is very important in politics, but due to little knowledge of some people or individuals about politics itself, then instead of using this politics to support the Collo interests, it divided the people into groups, which are very hard to cooperate.
Political difference should not forbid Collo people to build a School, Hospital and etc for innocent Children, who even don't know about a word call politics.

If one tribe men can not stay comfort together, then how will this future Southern Sudan take all the different tribes there comfortably?

We Collo have to take decision about our future now, the steps taken at the "ALL COLLO SECOND CONFERENCE" held in Malakal last April is very encouraging when all the items/equipments provided for Conference were taken to Kodok Hospital

We have many qualified and experienced candidates in different fields of specializations who are working now in different parts of Sudan and even in different parts of the world, we have many new graduates in Sudan and other Countries, we have Technicians in different fields, I think it is a matter of arrangement and willing to serve Collo land.

To build a strong nation we have to leant from others and take into consideration their fouls, development start step by step.

My proposal to these issues is that, it is better for all Collo communities to make awareness among their members by organizing workshops about development specially those outside Sudan; the youth living outside should know that it is not their land even if it is shining and beautiful, the Whites have worked hard to achieve that stage.

The Collo youth and elders all together should take initiative for the issue of developing Collo land, this lack of development is our issue to face so that our sons and grand son will enjoy later.

My initiative to fight this issue is concentrated and emphasized on the following points.

after the Conference directly, so this is a contribution to development itself.

1.Each Community can sort out her Members in term of specialization both the experienced and the new graduates, so as to know the number of the experienced and the new graduates candidates in each community in each specialization , this can be achieved via questionnaire.

2.Setting Visions and proposals Projects of each category of specialization as contribution for development of Collo land.

3.Arrangements of feasibility analysis of the proposed Projects of each category of specialization to find out the chances of implementation.

4.Implementation of these Projects on the ground.

These steps can contribute to develop the Collo land, it is a hard job, but very easy if the Collo communities take initiative as one spirit and put it as goal for Collo people.

Finally I hope most Collo Communities all over the World will take initiative to take care about this important issue, the land is build by the owners. So it is time for initiatives from different sources to help ourselves.

Correction: Line 31 "after the Conference directly, so this is a contribution to development itself" is supose to be after Line 16. Not before the points.
    This is posting error.

    Dear Jiben
    Thank a lot Nyimeah
Development as you have put it's actually doing things in a new ways or thing new for that matter or to bring up the society by providing them with the simplest basics needs of life as you mentioned. Collo land need development, I think it is a matter of dedication, and for someone to dedicate him/herself to serve the community it takes passion.
I work for Fashoda Youth Forum (FYF) www.fashodayouth.org as a founder but as you may know the saying that one hand can't claps, but with the few because many of our people are not interested in working with the national/community based NGOs we managed to do the following

    1) 2003-: Water & Environmental Sanitation (WES) Project: The project ensures environmental sanitation through safe disposal of domestic waste and security of water supply. Initiated as a pilot, sample communities learnt how to construct pit latrines; FYF also provided toilet slabs. The project won the World Bank Market Prize during the Ethiopia-Sudan Development Marketplace event that was organized by the World Bank and its partners, which took place at UNECA Conference Center, Addis Ababa, in February 26-28 2003.

    2) Dissemination of the 6 Protocols: From July 2002 to May 2004, FYF joined African Centre for Human Rights & Advocacy (ACHA) and Bahr-El-Ghazal Youth Development Agency (BYDA) to promote civic awareness on peace building through the dissemination of the 6 Protocols signed by SPLA/M throughout Southern Sudan.

    3) Dissemination of CPA: In January 2006, FYF disseminated the Comprehensive Peace Accord, signed in Kenya in January 2005, throughout Malakal Town.

    4) Behavior Change & Communication on HIV/AIDS: FYF is currently involved in public campaigns, TOT workshops, counseling, distribution of condoms, advocacy and networking with other stakeholders on HIV/AIDS prevention and management.
Sudan Humanitarian Assistance for Rehabilitation in Upper Nile (SHARPUN) Project: The goal of this program is to improve the living conditions of returnees and host communities and contribute to a gradual process of recovery by enhancing community self-reliance, expanding primary health care services and improving agricultural production.

    5) Returnees Assistance & Re-integration Project (RARP).
This project (on going) strengthens coping mechanisms of highly vulnerable households and individuals amongst returnees, IDPs 4 of 11 and host populations. What are or have been your sources of funding, if any?

    with these partners

WES Project: Funded by CIDA-Program Support Unit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Dissemination of Protocols & CPA: PACT and South Consulting under the South Sudan Transition Initiative (SSTI) – with contributions from Trocaire, Christian Aid and DFIF

Behavior Change & Communication on HIV/AIDS Project: British High Commission in Nairobi (South Sudan Sector.

SHARPUN Project: World Vision US and World Vision Sudan Others are:

WES Project: UNICEF Quick Start Community Support Program for South Sudan sector

Returnees Assistance & Re-integrations Project (RARP): Funded by USAID through World Vision

how do the Chollo sons and Daughters to develop or serve their community?

Many of our people are not interested to work with National/Community based NGOs because those NGOs are not sincere in the assessment, writing, implementation, reporting and evaluation of their projects. The International NGOs have used these weaknesses to tarnish the image of our indigenous NGOs and block donors from trusting and funding them. Most of those international NGOs are never interested in development apart from their high salary packag and adminstrative costs, most of which go to the foreign expartriats who do not have the passion for development of our people. They only do something little but report big achievemnets about it so that they get more money for the continuation of their pay and not the continuation of development. That is why they like to hide behind emergency projects and avoid committing themselves for any serious work of development. Shamely, our indigenous NGOs have inherited this attitude, which is indeed dangerous and regressive for deveopment of Collo land and people. Also our government (including the traditional authorities) is never serious to check and monitor those NGOs. Given this situation (unless there is a change of attitude), I do not expect much from our Indigenous NGOs in term of real commitment to development. But who will do the reforms and who will monitor them? Of course all those who are concerned for the good and rights of Collo. But how? By tracing the funding sources of those NGOs and checking their financial/administrative management, and by assisting them in thoughts, expertise and funding. But Who? I, You, and They. But where? in the needy collo areas with people who are ready to contribute to their own development, given the assistance of others. And When? Right from the time we have something to offer and something to evaluate - this year, next year, etc.

    Dear/ Jiben,
it is true that collo land need development as you put it. one has to ask himself/herself how and where we start the development, since our land was totally destroy by the war to the extent that we have scattered to different places. so let us think first about repatriation, especially those who are living in North Sudan, because they have skills and ability that will contribute to the development.
