Press Statement: Gier Chuang Libelous Allegations are Pure Lies

Maj. Gen. Gier Chuang AluongMr Gier Chuang Aluong, the Government of Southern Sudan's Minister in charge of security, held a press conference on the 26th instant in which he made baseless allegations against SPLM-DC and its Chairman, Dr Lam Akol, in connection with the Sudan Airways Helicopter that was held by the SPLA in Paloc airport early this month.

As usual, these Spokesmen of GOSS would never rest until they drag the name of the SPLM-DC into their failures, blunders and inefficiency.  But Gier Chuang has gone too far. He is quoted by the official GOSS website to have said the following:

"Critically, the minister explained that the crew and the passengers captured with the plane have given leads on the identities and motive of the sponsors of the operations. For instance, he explained that the crew reported that Dr Lam Akol have in the past contributed to the hiring of the helicopter and paid SDG 200,000 for ten hours' operation to and from Belewic. ( www.goss-online.org).

The minister is unashamedly manufacturing stories. We challenge him to produce the evidence he has on who among the crew said that, evidence of the payment and whether the money was paid for ‘the past' or the particular flight that in which the helicopter was captured?

The lies of this small minister become more glaring when he is quoted by the same GOSS website as follows:

"Gen Gier explained that the SPLA received a tip from peace-loving members of the national intelligence about the helicopter, its trip and cargo on the 7th August 2010. The information intimated that the helicopter would deliver weapons and food supplies to Gen Athor. The SPLA together with the JIU laid ambush and intercepted the plane on its return trip. The minister explained that the security forces did not intercept the plane on the first leg of the trip to let it pick the passengers who would provide more information and evidence of the motive of the sponsors." (www.goss-online.org).

You need not lay an ambush and intercept the plane; the route and time of the plane were known a priori and the plane in its forward journey did land in Paloc as scheduled. This is a misuse of the word "ambush" unfit of a General. If the allegation of Gier Chuang that the plane was carrying weapons and food supplies were to be believed, we would like to ask him a simple question: what "would provide more information and evidence of the motive of the sponsors" of the plane, intercepting it on the forward trip with the "weapons and food supplies" on board or seizing "passengers" on its return trip?   Commonsense would suggest that it is better to catch the culprit red-handed. But commonsense is not so common to Gier Chuang and his ilk. Do not forget you are addressing intellectuals who will analyse every word you utter. On the incident in Paloc, the SPLA Spokesman, Kuol Deim, was quoted as saying:

"The units of SPLA Military Intelligence in charge of guarding the airport suspected the plane. When it was searched they found that it was carrying weapons, ammunition and nine military leaders of General Athor.." (Al Adath Arabic newspaper, No 1006 dated 12/8/2010 (in Arabic)).

Who do we believe, Gier Chuang or Kuol Deim, or none?

Gier Chuang has no credibility to talk on matters related to SPLM-DC. He was the one who misled the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly last June to lift the immunity of the SPLM-DC members in the Assembly on trumped up charges that they were involved in the horrendous murder of a Shilluk Paramount Chief in Panyikang County. The allegations were found for what they were; baseless. That day in the SSLA was a black spot in the history of Southern Sudan democracy. Up to now, the Assembly has not recovered from the repercussions of this sad episode.  Gier Chuang seems to hold a personal grudge against George Athor and some observers think he was a factor in his mutiny.

Gier Chuang should stop besmearing the good name of SPLM-DC. He must present his claims to a credible court of law, otherwise, we will make him do so. It is an irony of fate that the security of South Sudan is in the hands of the likes of Gier Chuang who cannot tell the head from tail in such a complicated enterprise in this age of globalization.

I have always said that as a leader in Southern Sudan or Sudan for that matter, Dr. Lam Akol's name will come up whether for good or for bad. How will be an opposition leader without invoking detractors? I believe Hon. Gier Chuong has enough evidence from the SPLM-DC former Secretary General, the detained passengers of the helicopter and from the battle field. So please stop emitting hot air. It will not help. Stay well

  • Uchai Kuachikuan

hasn't the SPLM/DC'former secretary general, been there when the helicoptor was said to have been ambushed(a helicoptor ambush!?) well,if he happend to have been caught shewing something big enough for his Hon.to talk or furnish, at less, a written note with details about the COPtor, its laod, passengers and who is behind the Copter, operation, He should have mention something sooner after Kuol Diem had done yelling about the Copter. Otherwise the former sec general is out of this,or else, some kind of premative reaction to the Upper Nile Government invitation, to DC,would be left naked in the open for anybody to see. Just wondering!

  • Afaj

I think general Gier Chuong pronounced Dr. Lam Akol’s name wrongly, so rather than saying George Athor he said Lam Akol by mistake. Because Lam’s name is at the back of his mind already, as well as SPLM-DC. Oh my God how it easy these days to say these names.

  • Peter Adwok Nyaba

Messrs Uchai Kwacakwan and Chol Kudit!!!
You can twist it in the manner you want. The Minister of Interior (GOSS) must collect all evidence before making a statement. The former S/G was debriefed and his story analysed; before what he said became public came the Copter saga and more evidence and using all these data it led to where the renegade general was hiding exposing more information about the involvement of others hiding in Khartoum and Juba. Is this clear? What do you want to dispute: Is it the facts as exposed by Gier or that nothing of that sort ever occured? Stay well

  • Dr. James Okuk

    Dear All,

I don't think the rubbish you call evidence here could make any legal evidence. It may only make a politicized propagandist evidence about the civilian white commercial Sudan Airways helicopter that was wrongly ambushed by the SPLA.

    1. Video Clip showing George Athor waiting for helicopter and he mentioned something about it: This is fabrication. If you have come across modern computer technology called photo shop that merge separate picture to look like if they are related, I don't think you could risk to fool yourself here by saying the video clip is an evident. Where in the world where the rule of law is respected do judges accept such clips for incriminating evidences?

    2. Third person to George Athor in his moment was in helicopter: The said person could have nothing to do with ranks in Athor's army. He is known as former county commissioner who hails from the same county with Athor. But even if we assume that he is one of Athor's army men, should we also not doubt as to the fact that the SPLA Spokesman, the Abyei guy who has become an excellent professional in pure lies, has said in the near past that Athor has been contained and is hiding with only thirty bodyguards most of who are his close relatives. Now if we take what this SPLA spokesman has said seriously, where does a third person in command to Athor arise from? From those thirty body guards? Can a former commissioner accept to be a bodyguard of a former SPLA general turned rebel? I hope those liars are not drunk when they lie!!!

    3. Three crew who accepted of being doing delivery to SPLM-DC: Are the crew the ones supposed to know who hired the helicopter or the Sudan Airways company management? When did Athor and supporters declare their membership to SPLM-DC so that it could be said the helicopter was doing delivery (of i don't know what) to SPLM-DC? As far as the air flights management is concerned, the drivers of the aircrafts (helicopters included) only receive orders to go to A or B or C point and back. They have no business with how much aircrafts are hired or who hired them. Now, how can a minister, if he is not ignorance of his duty, confidently says the crew told his investigators that they were ordered by the SPLM-DC to deliver some materials to Athor? Who in the SPLM-DC ordered them and when did the SPLM-DC become Sudan Airways company to give orders to crews? Do you see the pure rubbish from a minister and his investigators here!!!!

    4. Some wounded soldiers from George Athor moment: Who said that the wounded found in the helicopter were only due to Athor's war with the SPLA? Could they have been wounded by a separate circumstance (e.g., the border feuds of some Shilluk with some Dinka over Pigi County or by individual fight or by etc.,)?

I think the GoSS and the SPLM/A need to get more evidences than the said rubbish, if they respect honesty more than malicious propaganda against SPLM-DC and Dr Lam Akol who seems to have become a nightmare. I will not be surprised even in future if some of those malicious liars get diarrhoea fail to defecate in a toilet, they will not be ashamed to say it is SPLM-DC and Dr Lam who is doing it on them.

  • Dr. James Okuk

    Peter Adwok Nyaba,

I don't think the former SPLM-DC SG, Eng. Charles Kisanga, could be trusted in whatever report he could have given to the SPLM because he has been discovered as dishonest person by the few SPLM leaders themselves who think that honesty should be the only way forward fro resolving differences. Eng. Kisanga defected to the SPLM because his mouth was weaned from the milk he was enjoying in the party by virtue of being an SG. What he has said about the SPLM-DC and Dr Lam Akol is like what any beggar says as a whetting introduction to a benefactor when the aim is really to get what he needs and not the introduction.

The white aircraft that Eng Kisang and the company has been bragging about are known to be the commercial ones hired during the elections campaign. Even by that time, the SPLM-DC found it difficult to get a white commercial helicopter for taking the GoSS presidential candidate's (Dr Lam) campaign to Mayut County and Nasir because the demand in the market was so high and political sabotage was also there.

Just wait and take your time until the truth of an honest investigation comes out; it shall be known that the impounded helicopter and the innocent crew and civilians who are just wrongly treated like quilty people now by the SPLM/A, have nothing to do with the ill-motivated propaganda of the enemies of South Sudanese unity.

What I know is that most of what Minister of Interior, Gier Chuang, is saying here is political propaganda. For example, if Gier is doing his work well in Southern Sudan how comes that he failed to check the impounded helicopter and investigate what is in it in the first place when it was going to Southern Sudan and not when it was coming back to Northern Sudan. Even if we assume that the helicopter was carrying arms and ammunitions, is it not too late to talk about this when such arms and ammunitions have already reached to their end to destabilize South Sudan as he propagates? I would have been far happy if such arms and ammunitions were captured rather than capturing an empty helicopter with nothing in it except the crews and some innocent civilians inside.

What Mr. Gier is saying here is not new because he has before lied to the people that his arms-searching team in Juba captured heavy machine guns from civilians including aircrafts missiles, when in fact, the truth came out later that the demonstrated arms were the very SPLA and Police arms brought from the stores and exhibited in public to hoodwink the people and H.E. Salva Kiir that the Minister is doing an excellent work. Those exposition arms were just taken back to stores and to those SPLM leaders from whom they were got afterwards when the aim of the deception and pleasing Salva Kiir was achieved. Up to now nobody saw a single civilian from whose hand any of those arms where captured.

I wish South Sudan was a region of the rule of law, and those of Minister Gier and other dishonest people would have faced the consequences of their lies to the people and their president. No wonder, those lies and and ill-motives could be propagandists' tactics against the success of South-South dialogue, reconciliation, and forgiveness for a greater good that surpasses individual selfishness. But the liars will get exposed later when the real truth comes out.

It is known by many that Peter Adwok Nyaba was part of the spies who pruned Eng. Kisanga from SPLM-DC thinking that they could use his weakness to destroy the SPLM-DC and Dr Lam political advantages. Now what is Nyaba trying to say here when he has never been part of any solution but troubles in the South. The world is just round for the liars to be exposed!!!

  • Peter Adwok Nyaba

" It is known by many that Peter Adwok Nyaba was part of the spies who pruned Eng. Kisanga from SPLM-DC thinking that they could use his weakness to destroy the SPLM-DC and Dr Lam political advantages. Now what is Nyaba trying to say here when he has never been part of any solution but troubles in the South. The world is just round for the liars to be exposed!!!" James Okuki - I know that with this vulgar language you want to scare away intellectual contribution. You are kidding. My trace record speaks for itself. The pilots have confessed having feeried weapons and ammunitions to different parts of Southern Sudan including Orinyo. They also supplied the LRA. Whether or not you accept is your own problem. The pilots are under arrest and eventually the truth will come out. It is better not to resort to the language of the street.

  • Dr. James Okuk

"The pilots have confessed having feeried weapons and ammunitions to different parts of Southern Sudan including Orinyo." From this statement, is it not true that Peter Adwok Nyaba has been playing an excellent spy role in Southern Sudan, and especially the Chollo Kingdom. I think I am not far from honesty when I say the world is just round and liars could get caught so easily. Who can deny that Nyaba is known to be a trouble maker, not only within the Chollo community but also in the whole of Southern Sudan!!!

But let's come to the point Nyaba is trying to shoot across; the propagated confessions of the innocent crews: Who is not aware that some undisciplined malicious elements within the SPLA (call them MIs) are known of putting their own perceptions on the mouth of the victims using threats or practice of brutal torturing methods? If the hands of the crews were handcuffed and they were dragged to Juba like criminals before verifying whether they were guilty or not, what else do you expect them to say to the torturers? They can even say they were the one who killed Dr John Garang in the evil Ugandan ("presidential";) Chopper.

Dear elder Prof. Peter Adwok Nyaba, be reasonable in the first place if you want to receive very nice language and respect from others; otherwise Hammurabi’s and Moses’ laws could work well on you.

  • Carlo J Chol

    Dear Dr. Okuk,

Don't you have things to do by replying back to Dr. Adwok Nyaba. Whatever you say this man will never be convinced. The man is unoccupied and has released himself to writing on the net instead of attending to his ministerial business, among which are the headache of transferring the Southern Universities to the South. You have said enough, let him accept or reject it.

  • Dr. James Okuk

    Dear Carlo

Don't think that I have no things to do when I am corresponding with Dr Peter Adwok Nyaba here in Pachodo website. I am not even writing to convince him but refute some of the propaganda he tries to say to the public against the SPLM-DC. Otherwise I would have been engaging him privately if the issue is to convince him to shut his mouth as you wrognly think.

  • Carlo J Chol

Keep it up. There is something hidden behind the mask.

    Dear Prof Peter Adwok Nyaba

I really respect your humbleness and your big interest to char your good ideas with our young people on the politics here in this website, as I always expecting the good opinions and guidance’s from our elders like your Excellecny it is become a very difficult to understand that why you are now a counter to the expectations.
Leaders like your Excellency must stay in a good position that may not take your personality to the bad situation with these young politicians.
I can’t agree with you or accept what you said a bout the statement of Maj. Gen Gier Chuang, because you can’t put yourself in the tension line and can’t defense what have been said by Chwang. I think we can agree with Brother Chol Kodit for what he said, that Gier Chuang didn’t mean to accuse Dr. Lam Akol who is always the victim of any case concerning the insecurity happened in the South this shameful and unacceptable.
So please keep your time for your position, we need you to focus on the coming independence of Southern Sudan if it is happen, high education politics issues the one of big challenges for the Government of Southern Sudan in that time.

    With my Best Regards
    Fascola Abdallah Ajang

  • Peter Adwok Nyaba

Dear Pasquale Abdalla Ajang - You will excuse me if that is not how your name should be spelt. In political debates, people agree or disagree and there is no limit to the age, academic or social position of the people debating. What is important in this discourse is respect for the opinion of the other. I have observed that some of us use abusive language as if they have run short of ideas. In such a situation of course and elder like myself will immediately abstain. Let us use this web page for educating ourselves in order to narrow the political and ideological gaps between us. If you disagree with me because of my ideas I will take that rather than disagreeing with me because I refused from a certain political leader.Let us disagree over ideas not over personalities. Thanks and regards

Dear H.E. Gier Chuang Internal Affair Government of Southern Sudan,
We are seeing your commitments in the Minister of Internal Affair, so keep the good work as you have shown it to. It is clear that is a hard job, but who is the right person to do it except you. Many people are proud of what you are doing not only in Juba but the entirely south. It is true that lots of people around here are sure that you will do the best you could to protect the people of Southern Sudan under your administration specially at this time of referendum and after it. As Southern Government flags are flying in the air, not only it indicated that the South is already Independent country but the sense of freedom is energizing the people. However, we are least months away to victory, so we urge all of you to open your eyes brothers. To keep your spirit up, many people are optimistic that the Southern Government will reach their destiny. It will never go back to the past, we are urging you and many others leaders who have sacrificed for the sake of that land, to stick for the promise and keep the dreams alive, keep putting the efforts together as you did over the last 21 years in the bush. Keep the unity and solidarity alive, many of us outsides the motherland are supporting the independent of the South. As southern are moving forward to independent, it doesn’t matter if least number especially from Equatoria here in U.S is going in different direction; they will convince themselves soon. We hope you and your subordinates as well as offices managers to be in good health and to keep the duties of the Government as expected it to be. We appreciated your commitment and hard works in this critical moment.
