Since the independence of Sudan, people have been speaking about the unity, but that unity never materialized as a result of lack of will from leaders who governed the county. It is hard that the unity of the Sudan will be attain very cheaply for many reasons;
the gap between the north and south become more wide and enmities were rooted in the lives of whole Sudan citizens; lack of trust; superior and inferior complex mounted high; dignity and identity has been loss between Afro-Arabs and this is real cause of insecurity within those ethnics groups in Sudan.
For the northern, the unity implies that southern must accept to be second class citizens in their own country; they have to remain subjective to regulations and rules imposed on them by superior power. Is it real a unity people can speak about? When ''the superior power in Khartoum'' is requested to lift up Sharia law which was imposed on the people by Numeir regime, they refused to hearken to this voice, arguing that the Islam is the religion of majority. Therefore, the question of Sharia is out discussion. Can you think that the unity will be achieved by this ideology? The northern speak of unity in term of resources but not in term of people who have full rights.
For the southern, the unity must be base on citizenship rights not on religion affiliation, and every citizen has equal right to rule and to be rule, no way for one party to remain subject to another party, that may not be call unity. Let me give a clear picture about how Israel's kingdom had divided, King Solomon son of David had hard force labor on his own citizens and they were not happy, when his son Rehoboam took the throne, people came to request him to reduce the burden his father had putted on peoples, but he refused to listen to their demands. Indeed, his refusal brought secession of Israel into two nations, when people realized that Rehoboam would not listen to them, they shouted: ''We don't have to be loyal to David's family. We can do what we want. Come on, people of Israel, let's go home! Rehobooam can rule his people'' (2 Chron.10:1-19). In fact the southern had been asking their brothers in the north to reduce pressures which were imposed on them by excessive regimes in Khartoum but this appeal was rejected and underscored by northern. Now, southern reached to stage whereby they cannot dream about this illusion unity again which northern are trying to impose on them.
Honestly, five years were enough for both ruling parties of CPA to have narrowed the gap between two communities of north and south by doing tangible work that would have healed the chronic wound, but instead of accomplishing undeniable signs that can make unity attractive, nothing was made. The question that posed itself now, how can this illusion unity be made attractive within these eight months which was not possible in whole five years?
Dr.Ali Nafi stressed yesterday that the question of the unity is a concerned of whole political parties and not NCP and SPLM issue. Yes, he is 100% right but this offering is too late, because previously CPA parties denied other parties participation, thinking that you (the parties of CPA) will be able to resolve the issue of unity. Now, you want to bring others on board for you would not want to bear blame alone from the whole Sudanese for your wrong management style.
Dr.Ali Nafi, I would like to remind you that your language and language of news paper such as alintibaha which is pro- government agency, is too bad, and carry image of abuses on the southern. If you thought that those southern can be rule with power as before, this time will not be possible. Threatening expression used by your party will not yield fruits but it will encourage more resistance.
Think of what Issak Fathalhala said in alintibaha on 4 May, if southern choose separation, they will not be allow to remain in north for minute after announcement of secession. Does it mean that the southern are only people who have interest in north? Does it mean the northern have no interest in south? What will be the fate of northern in the south?. Issak is too bitter because of his interest in the south is great then the interest of southern in the north. If it is not the northern that need south why do they failed to allow this secession to go on smoothly without stumble block you are doing now, by making the process of secession very difficult to be attain. Is it not true color intention of your government which they had tried and still trying sabotaging the southern not to go for secession.
To make this illusion unity attractive presidency office must come out clear that they are going to adopt Nigeria form of government, whereby presidential office will be routed among south and north. Muslims in whole north not only two communities, to must have full right of becoming a leader of this nation and Christians from south to become a president of this nation, if we have zeal and will for real unity. Apart from this idea, we should not assume or dream about this illusion unity. Surely you cannot force unity on the people, for it comes through understanding and good will, also secession cannot be force on people. Indeed, people should be given chance to decide their destiny according to CPA, and all parties must accept the result as we accept election result with all it irregularities.
