For the sake of tribal and personal interest the votes were rigged, for the sake of rigged votes the south is about to be loss. George Athor’s rebellion is turning out to be a real thorn in the side of the GOSS, and as the it is sweltering with disgruntled soldiers of the SPLA from a variety of understandable reasons ranging from hunger frightened soldiers to sympathetic who begin to believe that the 20 years spent in the bush and the blood of martyrs had been loss in vain.
Why would a regular soldier in actives services with his riffle hung to his shoulder collect firewood for sale? How much would he get to feed his kids from the sold firewood and how long would he practice this extra job to earn more to top his salary that arrives once in quarter of a year very late like the night train when the traveler would be nodding with sleep? From the military point of view that does not need going to school, that must stipulate reasonable orders and execution of orders are; if you told a soldier to run, he will do so because he can run. But if you order the soldier to fly he will defy, because neither he or the senior who gave orders could. The other reasons orders will be defied are; Orders meant to dehumanize the soldier. Delayed salaries indefinitely while the top brass are enjoying with their families well taken care of either in Juba,Khartoum,London, USA, Australia etc.
It is becoming apparent that only Athor is able to defend his case because he has the power of the gun. The gun holders never seem to understand except the same language, which makes it a strong possibility that all the cheated SPLA officers who ran for elections as independents might be obliged to fallow suit.
But after all why do we sing the songs of freedom when we are not free? Or why do we claim democracy when we could not tolerate it. SPLM betrayed the people of south Sudan by rigging the elections at gun point in so many places thus the peoples’ mandate had been usurped. Credibility of so many had been put at stake for this unlawful act of stealing the elctions. The south had put generalized defiance that might lead to over all civil defiance to GOSS. It unfortunate the strong weapon entrusted by the people of the south to be used when the time comes, had turned against the people and their aspirations are dashed beyond retrieval.
Things will never be the same again in the south.
