The Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, launched an anti-HIV/AIDS campaign in Yambio County, Western Equatoria State, in collaboration with the United Nations.
The UNAIDS Country Coordinator, Musa Bungudu, told Miraya FM that a delegation of officials from the Southern Sudan Government, the UN agencies and foreign diplomats were visiting the area to inspect the situation on the ground. Last month, the United Nations said more than four-hundred people have been infected with HIV/AIDS in some areas of the Western Equatoria State, making it the highest rate in the south.
