South Sudanese workers at UN demonstra​te to get paid in $ value - Borglobe

BOR, August 14, 2012 (Borglobe)  – Jonglei State nationals who work for United Nation are demonstrating to get paid in dollars like international staffs of UN; not only in Jonglei, but South Sudanese nationals are protesting in all over the ten states of South Sudan. The UN national and chairperson of the protest, Madol Achiek Abijok of UNMISS urged the protesters not to touch any UN property or anybody because their demonstration is a peaceful demonstration and have nothing to do with UN properties. He also said that all the foreigners occupying national positions should leave the positions within 48 hours.  “I will request you not to touch any UN property or anybody, try by all means to be more peaceful because our protest of today we need to be paid in US dollars, we need foreign national who have occupied our positions to leave the compounds.” Madol Achiek Abijok said.  

“We are here demonstrating peacefully for two purposes and we have already handed the memo to you; you have the copy given 48 hours and this is the action follow the memo given; the first point is paying in dollars, we do not want discrimination, this is a discrimination against UN staffs, if you are reaching about no-discrimination then all the no UN staffs should be paid in dollars as long as we are working toward one objectives.” UN National staff Basilica Paul Jurkin said.

“I must advise that you do not obstruct the movement of UNMISS and I do hope personally that these issues have been shouted out as soon as possible but this is something beyond  the authority of the SSRC so we need the final approval from New York.”  The Jonglei State UNMISS Coordinator, Guang Cong said.

Jonglei state ministry of public service last week gave the circular to the UNMISS office so that all the national staffs should be paid in dollars.
